Malawi’s ruling PP needs strategies to win polls

Malawi’s ruling People’s Party (PP) has said it is strategising and improving its policies in preparations for the 2014 tripartite elections.

PP’s secretary general Henry Chibwana said this on Wednesday at Grace Bandawe Conference Centre in Blantyre during the party’s Southern Region capacity building workshop.

Chibwana said as a new party, PP needs guidance on its operations.

“PP has decided to hold the workshop to teach leaders at grass-roots level party policies and to strategise on the best way to win the tripartite elections in 2014.

“Since PP is new and only came into power in April 2012, there are a lot of consultations that need to be done within the party in order to win with a landslide victory,” said Chibwana.

The party’s deputy director of economic affairs Sosten Gwengwe said the workshop will also sensitise PP members to the party’s constitution and tackle issues of economic governance at grass-roots level for leaders to be well informed.

PP national women’s director Clara Makungwa said the party is stocktaking challenges and accomplishments since its establishment.

She said PP is also mobilising women to compete as parliamentarians in the 2014 elections.

“As a party that is led by a woman, PP is encouraging women to compete as legislators for their constituencies in the 2014 elections,” said Makungwa.
