Ugandan queen of comedy Annie Kansiime is raring to come and perform in Malawi for the second time.

After a successful show that attracted a record audience at the Bingu International Conference Centre (Bicc) in Lilongwe in May 2014, Kansiime returns at the same venue on July 2.

While she cannot wait to perform in Malawi, the comedian likens her return to a visiting to a lost friend.

“It’s exciting because it feels like going to visit a long lost friend, but also there is that anticipation of what this time will be like, so I am already warmed up,” she said in an interview.

Added Kansiime: “I am promising Malawians a serious catching up session between two friends; Kansiime and Malawi. It’s been too long. I missed you Malawi.”

Famed for her no nonsense attitude in her comedy, she said she has same expectations like the first time.

“I am returning to enjoy the warmth of the warm heart of Africa. My memory is still fresh from the love I received last time, so this time we have to take this relationship to another level, we have to put each other as profile pictures because it is official…Malawi and I are in love,” she said.

Asked if she will dish out jokes specific to Malawi, Kansiime said: “ Of course…sooooo…ah! But then I would be stripping before you even buy me dinner…Nooo! I am not that kind of girl. Hahaha…let’s wait for our date and everything will drop.”

During her 2014 visit, Kansiime was accompanied by one of her management team member who doubles as a comedian, but she was non-committal if it will be the same this time.

“You are really determined to pull out some juice, I can’t tell you that, but just know that this time around, you will laugh till you shout; ‘Kansiime!!! Please leave us alone!’” she said.

While she is at the peak of her career, male comedians have not intimidated her in any way.

“I simply choose to see us all as simply human beings before the male and female thing. We all have the same goal which is to make people laugh so they actually inspire and challenge me. I love it,” she said.

The comedian, however, confessed the return pressurises her as people have lofty expectations that she beats her 2014 performance.

“It does put the pressure and even more than my Ninjas. I am pushing myself to make sure I do way better than last time. So, I’m trusting God that it will all work out for the best. Otherwise, Malawi, ndikuona kuchedwa,” she joked. n
