President Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians not to curse the country but to be the first to wish it well and work towards developing it.

Speaking yesterday during CCAP Nkhoma Synod Thanksgiving Sunday Service at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe, he said other countries will not respect Malawi if Malawians are the first to despise the country.

Said Chakwera: “We should be the first to ensure national pride and patriotism. This country is not a dumpsite. It is a nation favoured by God.”

He called on the Church to keep supporting government in developmental activities and praying for government so that it is able to solve various challenges affecting the country.

“You should also continue to help in the health sector, education, agriculture and other areas,” said Chakwera.

He said government is doing all it can to ensure that the country progresses and that Malawians take part in the development of the country.

The President said in his three years in office, the country has faced many challenges some of which would have seen all Malawians perish if God was not with Malawians.

“One thing I know is that God is with us. He will not leave us alone,” said Chakwera.

In his remarks, CCAP Nkhoma Synod moderator the right Reverend Philip Kambulire urged Malawians not to focus on the negatives but also see the good things that God has done for the country.

He pledged support to government, saying the synod will stand with government and pray for the leadership to solve various challenges facing the country.

Said Kambulire: “Your goal is to help us the nation move out of problems and progress. So, if there are certain problems, you are not the cause but they are problems that we all face as nation.”

“No matter how good the President is, he cannot be coming to your house to cook for you. He cannot be going to your garden to cultivate for you. It is our responsibility to work hard.”

The prayer service attracted top government officials, including Vice-President Saulos Chilima and his wife Mary Chilima, Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda, retired Chief Justice Richard Banda, former vice-president Khumbo Kachali and members of Parliament, among others.

The synod organised the event to thank God for protecting Malawians from Covid-19, cholera and cyclones despite some people losing lives.

It was celebrated under the theme, “Nothing Shall Separate Us from God”.
