Malawi to host MIF financiers summit in Blantyre
Malawi will next month host a financiers summit for this year’s Malawi Investors Forum (MIF), Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (Mitc) chief executive officer Clement Kumbemba has said.
To be held on May 10 2016 in Blantyre, the financiers’ summit will attract financial institutions such as PTA Bank, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (Opic), which is the United States government’s development finance institution, African Development Bank (AfDB), Afrixim Bank, United Kingdom (UK) Export Finance Agency and Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa.
Kumbemba told a media briefing in Lilongwe on Wednesday the summit will offer an opportunity for regional and international financiers to discuss with local private sector and entrepreneurs on financing models.
“The objective [of the summit] is to bring the financiers to our doorsteps to interact with our private sector companies and entrepreneurs that have bankable proposals,” he said.
Kumbemba said preparations are already underway for the second MIF to be held in Lilongwe from October 10 to 12 2016.
He said this year’s MIF will promote 15 bankable projects to ensure tangible progress.
MIF is the Malawi Government’s initiative to attract the much-needed foreign direct investment (FDI). nn
