Others invited to the prayers to take place at Comesa Hall in Blantyre include leaders of political parties, religious leaders, government officials, civil society organisations, development partners, traditional leaders, election observers, all electoral stakeholders and the public.

The statement reads in part: “The prayers have been organised under the theme—Free, Fair and Peaceful Elections; Is Anything Too Hard For The Lord? (Genesis 18 vs 14A).

“The aim of the prayers is to pray for peace in our country as we head to the polls on May 20, 2014.”

MEC, in the statement signed by chief elections officer Willie Kalonga, said the prayers will be led by leaders of various faiths and religions.

MEC said the prayers have been organised in conjunction with the Malawi Council of Churches (MCC), the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, the Muslim Association of Malawi, the Quadria Muslim Association of Malawi, the Evangelical Association of Malawi, Malawi Union of the Seventh Day Adventist and the Pentecostal churches.
