The Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (Wabm) are having a general assembly next month.
Wabm president Richard Kuwali announced the news on Monday in an interview with The Nation.
Kuwali appealed to all those interested in various positions to submit their names to the association’s general secretary Harold Mwanayanga by calling him on +265-88899187.
“We want a vibrant association which can take the sport to another level. We are appealing to all those interested in developing the sport to apply,” said Kuwali.
He also encouraged ladies to apply.
In a related development, Kuwali has announced that they will hold Presidential Initiative on Sports weightlifting tournament in March at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.
“This tournament is strictly for weightlifters. This is a national tournament and we are appealing to all weightlifters to register with the national coach Chimwemwe Bakali. We are also asking ladies to register and participate in the tournament,” he said.
Athletes will compete in 56 kilogrammes (kg), 65kg, 77kg and 100kg and above.
According to Kuwali, the top three winners in each category will receive K50 000 (about $125), K25 000 (about $62.50) and K15 000 (about $37) respectively.
