Listen to this article

Youths in Malawi have asked President Joyce Banda’s administration to introduce financial bailout schemes for students in the wake of prevailing economic hardships.

In a communiqué signed at the end of last Wednesday’s day-long Young Leaders Conference on the economy to be submitted to Banda, the youth say government should expand the Public and Private Partnerships for tertiary education to improve access particularly for needy students.

Reads the communiqué in part: “Government should introduce financial bailout schemes for students whose parents and guardians are unable to pay tuition and examination fees in both private and public education institutions.

“Education loan schemes should be extended to non-regular students who cannot afford to pay for tertiary education in both private and public institutions of higher learning.”
