Up-and-coming fashion designer, Lilly Alfonso, made Malawi proud by hoisting the country’s flag aloft at the London Africa Fashion Week when she displayed her breathtaking trendy creations that made a mark on the international bazaar.

Alfonso showcased her different dazzling designs of women’s wear and also men’s outfits on the second day at the two-day event of the second edition of the Africa London Fashion Week.

The event was organised to celebrate African fashion at the Spitalfields Market in East London last weekend to an enthusiastic international audience at the world’s acclaimed fashion show.

The sensuality of the transparencies, the sexiness of the concept of Alfonso’s garments and the religious connotations with local laces known as ‘Zingwe za mbuzi’ was a central fabric for the Malawian designer at the fashion gala.

The Malawian fast-growing designer was backed by Malawi’s R&B crooner, award winning Theo Thomson, who attended the show and his hit song Kadona played in the background as the models paraded Alfonso materials.

Thomson, who is currently in the UK on tour, applauded Alfonso for her creativity, saying she made her country proud.

“It’s been wonderful and awe-inspiring for me to be here to support Lilly. Her designs are beautiful and smoking hot and she has made Malawi and her people proud. It was an honour for me to be part of such a great show in the world. Lilly (Alfonso) is the real deal,” said Thomson.

Alfonso thanked Malawians in the UK for the support they gave her, saying she was stunned to see so many Malawians attending the show just to support her.

She said: “I am overwhelmed by the support from Malawians in the UK”.
