Malawians to judge, says VP on Sec 65

History is repeating itself and those advocating for Section 65 of the Constitution over national priorities will be judged by Malawians harshly, Vice-President Khumbo Kachali has said.

Kachali was speaking at Mbulumbuzi grounds in Chiradzulu on Saturday where he launched the distribution of 5.4 million insecticide treated mosquito nets under the Ministry of Health initiative.

He said Malawians deserve better at the moment.

The Vice-President’s sentiments come as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has declared that it will pursue the issue of Section 65 in court after Ntcheu West MP Chikumbutso Hiwa obtained an injunction stopping Speaker Henry Chimunthu Banda from delivering a ruling on the petition by DPP on the same.

Said the VP: “No sane Malawian would want to go back to what Malawi was just six months ago. This administration needs stability and that can only be provided by those parliamentarians brave enough to stand with Malawians on the road to recovery.”

Kachali argued the 2014 general elections are not far away; hence, those wishing to make it into office could better spend their energies on such a task than disturbing and prioritising on issues that have little bearing on the ordinary people.

Kachali, who allowed almost all MPs that attended the event, including Blantyre City South East MP Jeffrey Mtelemuka, Mulanje Pasani MP Peter Nowa, Chiradzulu South MP Eunice Kazembe and Neno South MP Reene Kachere to address the gathering, argued things have started improving since President Joyce Banda took office.

The Vice-President said the function, which was attended by PP and DPP women all clad in their party attire, was a demonstration of new type of politics of reconciliation and oneness which he said is crucial to see Malawi sail through the current economic crises.
