Malawi’s First Lady invited to Co-chair African First Ladies Forum in US

Malawi’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika has been invited to co-chair the African First Ladies Round-table Forum on Women in Business and Government to be held from August 5 to 7, 2014 in Washington DC, USA.

According to the State House Press Office, Global Political Solutions, Miss Africa Foundation and The New Era Capital have organised the forum with support from Joint Centre for Political and Economic Studies.

Mrs. Shaunise, President and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, will be the moderator at the summit.

“The forum is focused on bringing together a broad spectrum of women for a well-balanced discussion on The Role and Importance of Women in Business and Government in the 21st Century,” said the State House in a brief statement on Friday.

“As Co-Chair, Madame Mutharika will preside over the event, as First Lady of Malawi and will have the honour of inviting another African First Lady, to join her,” it read.

The African First Ladies Round-table Forum on Women in Business and Government will be held alongside the US-African Leaders Summit which will be convened by President Barack Obama.

During the forum, a Special US Congressional Recognition Award will be presented to her as part of her participation and in recognition of the US-African Leaders Summit.
