Man nabbed for attempted uterus sale

Police in Blantyre have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly being found in possession of a uterus, a female organ that contained a developing foetus, which police claim he intended to sell to a traditional doctor.

The man, identified as Charles Nyasu, is alleged to have approached a Mbayani based popular witchdoctor ‘Dr Nyangazidana’ whom he offered his ‘merchandise’ at K30 000.

arrestBlantyre Police spokesperson Elizabeth Divala said in an interview upon conclusion of their business discussion the ‘doctor’ faked interest in the deal and requested the supplier to wait for his cash.

Said Divala: “The traditional doctor alerted our officers at Kabula Police who rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect. However, upon interrogation the man could not disclose where he got it and how.”

She said the State took Nyasu to Blantyre Magistrate’s Court where he reportedly pleaded guilty to the offence and was expected to be sentenced this week.

The suspect, who is a Mbayani resident, comes from Namasalima Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chikowi in Zomba District.n
