Many are the traditional dances that unite Mangochi and Zomba in the eastern part of Malawi, but only one seems to have struck a chord in the brains behind Mandevu Farm Resident Band.

The group under the tutelage of Maurice Maulidi has incorporated chikongo folk beat in their DVD and CD to be launched in April this year.

The Sakina and Ulendo Wanga hitmaker hinted at the upcoming fusion in an interview during a weekly cultural afternoon at The Village@Mandevu Farm on Sunday.

“The shooting of the video is underway and band owner Dr Leonard Kalindekafe has given us consent to include chikongo in the double release. We feel the touch will appeal to a wider audience,” said the white-haired veteran.

He disclosed that early last month, they have beefed up their squad with five members who are well versed in the beat from Ntaja, Machinga.

The upcoming album will comprise four chikongo numbers.
