Manica gives Mwanza Police a facelift

Manica Malawi Limited recently handed over roadblock equipment, a guard house and painted Mwanza Police offices at a cost of K2 million (about $8 000).

Manica Malawi Limited general manager Exford Kaphuka said they donated the roadblock equipment and painted the office building to provide officers a better working environment.

“We did this as part of our social responsibility and culture in Manica. We identified Mwanza Police Station as one place in our community which needs assistance,” he said.

Kaphuka said they also felt compelled to assist because Mwanza is the major entry point to Malawi; hence, giving it a facelift to portray a good image of the police and the country at large.

Manica has an office at the Mwanza Border Post and has pledged to continue identifying other areas in the district requiring assistance to improve the welfare of the people it mixes with when conducting their business.

Mwanza Police officer-in-charge Ollobiam Banda said the police believe in working in partnership with other organisations.

He said this has helped the station to reduce crime rates by 30 percent and road accidents by 60 percent between January and June 2012.
