His football career appeared gloomy after being diagnosed with a leaky heart valve, but just over a year down the line, former Big Bullets ace striker Godfrey Masonda appears set to return to top-flight football with Surestream FC.

Masonda is set to start a new lease of life at Super League rookies whose technical director Peter Mponda yesterday confirmed that the diminutive forward is in their camp.surestream-evirom

“We are not going to rush him into the thick of things, but we are definitely going to sign him.

“He is a naturally gifted striker. All he needs is a bit of time to regain full fitness having been out of competitive football for sometime. So, we need to be a bit patient with him,” said Mponda.

He said Masonda was scheduled to start training yesterday [Tuesday].

On his part, Masonda, 25, who was treated at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa last year, said he is ready for the big stage.

“I have fully recovered and I am in excellent health. I relaunched my career at my home side Ntchisi Wanderers who play in the Chipiku Central Region Football Association [CRFA] Premier Division, then I also trained with Blue Eagles.

“All is well with me and it’s about time I engaged an extra gear. I am happy that Surestream have given me such an opportunity and I will reward them for their faith,” he said.

In December last year, Masonda told The Nation that his plans were to revive his career at Bullets this season, but he had a change of heart.

“After careful consideration, I felt Surestream was the right team for me to rejuvenate my career in the elite league, but I am very thankful to Bullets, artist Limbani Kalirani [aka Tay Grin] and many others who contributed towards my heart treatment. Let them know that they will always have a special place in my heart,” he said.

Masonda was once Bullets’ key forward, partnering Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango in 2012 before joining Mozambiacn club Ferroviario de Nacala. He then relocated to Ntchisi due to illness.
