Masonda: All went on well

Former Big Bullets forward Godfrey Masonda underwent a successful minor surgery for his heart ailment at Milpark Hospital in South Africa.

The 23-year-old, who also had a stint in Mozambique, flew back home at the weekend.

In an interview with The Nation yesterday from Mangochi where he was attending his grandmother’s funeral, Masonda thanked all those who helped towards his treatment in South Africa.

He said he has already experienced tremendous progress.

“I no longer struggle when breathing,” he said, adding: “I am very thankful to the Bullets family, musician Tay Grin, you the media and many others for the support. Words fail me to express my gratitude. All I can say is that God should bless everyone abundantly and that they should do the same to others who are underprivileged and are struggling to get medical help because they cannot afford.”

Masonda also said the doctor has advised him to return to action in January next year.

“He said I can continue with my career because the problem had nothing to do with the heart and that for now I can start light training,” he said.

Bullets general secretary Harold Fote said they were happy and they are looking forward to Masonda’s speedy recovery.

Fote said the total cost of Masonda’s trip and medication came to about K2.7 million.

He said about K2.2 million was provided by Bullets officials while Limbani Kalilani, aka Tay Grin, donated K500 000 towards the cause.
