Massa PIS beneficial if talent is nurtured—Ndalama
Ndalama made the observation in Zomba on Tuesday when he launched the 2012 Massa PIS talent development programme at Masongola Secondary School.
He said identifying raw talent helps to fill the vacuum created by ageing athletes.
“Sports cannot develop if we overlook the grass roots. It is for this fact that I salute President Bingu wa Mutharika for coming up with this initiative,†said Ndalama.
He added that government appreciates the support from the corporate world in the development of sports in the country.
Massa president Ken Mphande said his association wishes to have a secretariat to keep data of athletes that have gone through its fold.
“For us to sustain this programme, we need support from well-wishers in cash or kind so that we have our own offices,†he said.
The launch started with a march by about 200 athletes from Zomba CCAP Primary School, passing through the city centre to Masongola. The athletes are being drilled in athletics, basketball, football, women football, netball, handball, table tennis and volleyball.
