General Secretary for CCAP Blantyre Synod Reverend Alex Maulana has warned his clergy to resign if they intend to contest in the 2014 Tripartite Elections.

Maulana shot the warning during an interview after the synod elected moderator, vice and deputy general secretary at the Synod’s Bi Annual Conference that took place from August 25-28 in Blantyre.

The elections were presided over by Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango of Livingstonia Synod.

“Those ministers who have the interest to contest in the tripartite elections should resign first and [if they want to return to the synod] they should re-apply and management will re-consider their applications. This is a constitutional matter the synod endorsed. There is no two ways about it.

“As Blantyre Synod we cannot allow politicians to practice as clergy in our churches. Politicians are elected to help us and our aim is not to tussle with politicians. We should not be divided because of politics,” said Maulana.

The new moderator, the Reverend Robson Chimkwezule said his main task is to develop and unite the synod both in rural and urban areas and make sure that all ministers receive equal treatment.

“As spiritual father, I am the chair of all synod committees as well as counselor of the CCAP church in Blantyre Synod.

“My main task is to make sure that the synod is developed and united from rural and urban. The role of the church is to work with the government of the day and give it advice where possible and not practice politics or being used by politicians,” said Chimkwezule.
