Newly appointed Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson Maxon Mbendera has said he is looking forward to a successful and remarkable 2014 tripartite elections devoid of flaws.

Mbendera said this in an interview at the High Court in Blantyre on Monday soon after he took oath of allegiance and oath of office conducted by Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo.

Mbendera said he has a challenge to make 2014 tripartite polls memorable.

The former Attorney General (AG) could not say about availability of funds for the tripartite polls, saying he would be in a position to know once he gets into office.

Mbendera commended his predecessor, Justice Anastasia Msosa, for a job well done the time she was at the helm of the commission.

Munlo, after swearing in Mbendera witnessed by all EC commissioners, said the position of EC chairperson requires a person of high integrity and of moral high standard to bring credibility to the institution, adding the new EC chair has these attributes.
