MBL Holdings seeks divine intervention

MBL Holdings, formerly Mulli Brothers Group of Companies, on Tuesday conducted prayers in all its 16 subsidiaries, asking God to guide their operations in 2012.

The prayers came at a time when economic commentators have predicted a tough time ahead for Malawi, with the financial and economic problems that rocked the country in 2011 bound to continue.

MBL Holdings chief executive officer and chairperson Leston Mulli said the consortium conducted the prayers to thank God for taking them through 2011 and to ask Him to be with them in 2012.

The prayers at the company’s head office in Chigumula, Blantyre, were led by presidential adviser on religious affairs the Reverend Billy Gama, who is also MBL Holdings chaplain.

“It is our culture in MBL Holdings that at the start of any year, we ask the Almighty God to be with us.

“As a God-fearing company, we are very much aware of the fact that without Him, we can achieve nothing,” said Mulli.

Businesses in Malawi had a rough ride in 2011 as the economy was riddled by an acute shortage of forex which affected the purchasing of essential commodities such as fuel, fertiliser and medical drugs.

President Bingu wa Mutharika, while admitting that 2011 was a tough year for Malawi, blamed Satan for the challenges.

Said Mutharika in his Christmas message to Malawians: “I know the Devil has failed because this year he sat on our back.

“The Devil brought problems, jealousy, hatred, lies and envy that we have never experienced in this country and the whole world, but God told him that this is not your time so the Devil has failed, God has triumphed”.
