The Men’s Guild of the Livingstonia Synod CCAP Church, Lilongwe congregation last Saturday donated 140 mattresses worth to K2.4 million to Embangweni School for the Deaf.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, chairperson of the men’s guild, also known as madodana, Fenwick Kamanga said they were moved with the fact that the school has 180 deaf students and only 40 mattresses.

“In line with the Bible which says faith without deeds is dead, we raised funds from a sponsored walk,” he said.

He added that his group felt a particular need to help the students because they are mostly neglected.

Board chairperson of the school Mclode Hara thanked the men for their timely donation.

Owned by the Livingstonia Synod, the school caters for deaf students, aged from five to 22, who take lessons for free.

The school also empowers deaf students with vocational training skills such as carpentry and tailoring.
