Mera maintains fuel pump prices

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) has maintained the pump price of fuel at the current levels to cushion the impact of the increase in the landed cost of petrol beyond the plus or minus five percent.

This means that fuel prices will be maintained at K723.60 per litre for petrol, K734.60 per litre for diesel and paraffin at K633.20 per litre.fuel

In a statement yesterday, Mera said the average Free on Board (FoB) prices for petrol, diesel and paraffin increased in June, when compared to the ruling average FoB prices in April on which the current fuel pump prices were based.

FoB prices for petrol, diesel and paraffin increased by 10.77 percent, 2.55 percent and 2.79 percent respectively “due to easing of the oil supply glut in the period under review”.

“Mera resolved to cushion the impact of the increase in the landed cost of petrol beyond the plus or minus five percent threshold through the rationalisation of levels in the price build up,” said a statement signed by Mera board chairperson Dingiswayo Jere.
