John Nthakomwa who has lead Mibawa Band for years has left   management of the band in the hands of the band’s drummer Donald Muwawa.

Nthakomwa has been running the band and cafe since 2011 and after three years of nothing but stellar success, he has relinquished his powers to Donald Muwawa.

“I have handed over the management of Mibawa Band and Cafe to Muwawa. As a person that has grown up in the industry, he understands more than me what needs to be done for the team to succeed,” said Nthakomwa in an interview.

He believes that with the experience amassed over the years, the Mibawa crew has matured enough to stand on its own.

“I believe they are ready to manage themselves with my remote support,” Nthakomwa said.

Nthakomwa said is now moving on to handle a new project, dubbed Mibawa One Stop complex.

Situated along the Midima Roundabout in Limbe, Blantyre, the complex comprises recording studios, shops, restaurants and entertainment club.

“We have invested in sound and studio equipment and we want to take the lead in development of local content for Malawian television stations. Currently, we watch a lot of foreign content on local televisions,” he explained.

Muwawa is one of founding members of Mibawa band.  Muwawa plays drums and has done so for a long time.

He said that being with the band in its infancy, he has seen it grow and is ready to take up the mantle.

“I am very prepared to lead the band further. We will continue from the success left by Nthakomwa and will spur us to do more. So it is just new management but same team,”he said in an interview.

Mibawa Band boasts of state-of-the-art equipment, which has contributed to a significant change in the conduct of open-air concerts in Malawi.
