Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) giants Mimbulu and African Bible College (ABC) Lions meet again for the fourth year running in the finals of the league next weekend at ABC Macon Gymnasium in Lilongwe.

The teams have reached the finals after successfully winning their assignments during two-day play-offs.

On Friday, Mimbulu beat Trojans 83-46 and ABC walloped Disciples 74-46. During the second play-offs, on Saturday, Mimbulu baptised Trojans 111-56 and the Lions beat Disciples 97-78.

This year’s final is unpredictable as the students have also proved that they can beat the champions. Lions beat Mimbulu once in a league fixture.

In interviews, Mimbulu coach Madano Tepeteya and Lions captian Vincent Ngosi each was optimistic about winning this year’s title.

Tepeteya said: “I have been saying that the Cezobal trophy was made for us and we will continue winning it no matter what. We are not afraid of Lions. We have the cream of basketball and we are winning the title.”

On his part, Ngosi said: “We have missed the title to Mimbulu in the finals three times. We are not happy with this. We want the record we have set on the log table to be spiced up with a cup and we are geared for them. They should expect a tough run in the finals.”

Before the finals, Disciples and Trojans will meet in a third-place match.

Meanwhile, Cezobal has said it will announce prizes to be given to the winners during the week.
