League champions Mimbulu Basketball team on Sunday night beat new entrants Central Knights 80-68 in the finals of the Champions Trophy played at African Bible College in the capital city.

During the game, Mimbulu committed five fouls whereas their opponents committed nine.

Chairperson for Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) Kingsley Gwaza said it was an exciting and competitive tournament because the old timers were playing newcomers.

“These [Central Knights] are youngsters from different areas of Lilongwe. The more they play and get organised, the more powerful they are going to be. Next time, it will be hard for Mimbulu,” said Gwaza.

Mimbulu forward Peter Uwitonze said the Central Knights should keep on improving and getting more organised because they have shown that they are a better side.

“If they stick together they will be a force to reckon with,” he said.

Central Knight forward Paul Kafakoma sent a warning shot to Mimbulu: “The team is just coming together. Next time they [Mimbulu] better be aware. Tonight, we played our best considering that they are a better side,” said Kafakoma.

He promised their fans that each time they play they are getting better and soon they will be a dreaded side.
