Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa has blamed Cashgate, in which billions of kwacha were stolen from government coffers, for slow progress in development projects.

Nankhumwa made the remarks when he toured Chapananga Rural Growth Centre in Chikwawa, a project that has stalled for years.

The minister stated that it was the wish of government to complete all the stalled projects that have been initiated.

“We need to complete all these so that people can start using them at least by end of the financial year, which is March next year,” he said.

Commenting on the hunger situation, Nankhumwa said government was doing all it could to make sure that no one died.

“We are making sure that there is maize in all Admarc depots so that rural masses are able to access the commodity. We want to see that nobody dies of hunger in the country,” he said.

He also called on organisations to help government in providing food to hunger stricken households.
