Ministry investigating Chitipa District Council
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Trasizio Gowelo) said on Friday officials at the ministry are investigating misallocation of about K16 million Local Development Fund (LDF) at Chitipa District Council.
He was responding to a question from member of Parliament (MP) for Chitipa South Werani Chilenga, who asked whether officials at Chitipa District Council—who have allegedly misallocated funds—are being investigated.
He said: “I have an example at Chitipa District Council, where close to K16 million intended for Community Development Fund [CDF] was diverted. If the minister is aware, what mechanisms have been put in place to avoid a repeat of such a scenario.”
In response, Gowelo said the matter is currently under investigation and he will keep the MP informed on progress.
The minister said the money was not stolen, but was just misallocated.
