Miss Key Lounge beauty pageant back

Listen to this article

After almost a year of silence on the Miss Key Lounge Beauty Pageant, organisers have said it is back this year.

The future of the beauty pageant was uncertain following the closure of the Key Lounge last year. According to the lounge manager Trooper Thindwa, it was closed due to poor patronage.

This also affected the crowning of the 2012 Miss Key Lounge. But in an interview this week, Thindwa assured Mzuzu fans that the pageant is back and a new queen will be crowned by end of this year.

“It was really uncertain on the future of the crown more especially because of the closure of the lounge, but it does not mean we are completely gone. It was just the closure of the lounge and I can assure followers of the crown that we are crowning another queen this year,” he said.

However, Thindwa said there will be no more changes in the pageant and the crowning event will take place in December as usual.

Miss Key Lounge was inaugurated in 2010 and the then Polytechnic student Roweena Trindade was crowned queen.

In 2011, 24-year-old Tusekili Wilkinson took the crown.

In Zomba, the battle for the Miss and Mr Zomba crown returns in same style.

Spokesperson of the pageant organisers Hot Fellas, Msopa Kumwenda, in a phone interview said all is set for the 2013 Miss and Mr Zomba contest. He said they will crown the new king and queen in December.
