Miss Malawi organisers have engaged an extra gear in their quest to reach out to as many candidates as possible.

This is part of build-up to the Lilongwe auditions, the second since media giants, Nation Publications Limited (NPL) and Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), joined hands to resuscitate the beauty pageant after a four year hiatus.

As part of intensifying Miss Malawi activities, the organisers have embarked on a scouting exercise which will take them to colleges in Lilongwe.

“The scouting exercise is to help us identify beauty and encourage young women to participate in the beauty pageant. We are basically visiting educational institutions where our teams are giving out information on the pageant and giving opportunity to the ladies to ask as many questions as they can.

“There, the women can apply right away and just come for the audition on designated days. Our aim is to demystify the pageant and bring it as close as we can to the group that matters the most in this journey, the young women themselves,” said the pageant’s spokesperson Theresa Ndanga.

“At the scouting stage, our teams are looking at the basic requirements for one to compete in the beauty pageant,” she said.

“Once identified, these will be encouraged to apply and attend an audition. We know there is a lot of beauty in Malawi and we want the pageant to bring that out. So as we had promised at the very beginning as managers of the pageant, we will do everything within our capacity to give every qualifying lady the chance to contest.

“This time around, prior to the Central Region audition, we are scouting at colleges within Lilongwe. We have already visited Luanar where many ladies expressed interest to contest. On Thursday and Friday, we will be at MIJ and Skyway colleges,” she explained.

Other colleges schedules for the scouting exercise are Polytechnic, Lilongwe Technical, Exploits, KCN, MCA and Pentecostal Life.

The Central Region auditions will take place on July 31 at Capital Hotel.
