Misunderstandings rock Amaa’s film training

The ongoing Film in a Box training being run by the African Movie Academy Awards (Amaa) in conjunction with the Film Association of Malawi (Fama), has seen 20 youths withdrawing on the first day, citing irregularities by the organisers.

“We were briefed that they will outsource facilitators locally. So I and some people, about 20 felt we will not benefit like we anticipated with the latest development, and we therefore withdrew our registration,” said Limbikani Chisi one of the people who initially registered.

Chisi’s story was corroborated by others who did not want to be named .

Just last week, Amaa held a dinner at the Kamuzu Palace where they raised about K50 million which is about US$136 000 in cash and pledges.

However, Fama said everything is in order.

“We must understand that it is in the best interest of the nation,” said Fama acting President Ezaius Mkandawire.

In a separate interview, Amaa chief executive officer Peace Anyiam Osigwe said she could not understand why people are making noise over nothing.

“Some of the international experts have arrived and others will join us later. I am one of the facilitators too. These people must have had a hidden agenda or something,” she charged.
