New Dawn Boxing Promotions has announced that the winner between the title fight involving Chrispin Moliati and Salimu Chazama will be eligible for an international bout against Zimbabwean Clyde Musonda.
New Dawn managing director Michael Chimaliza said on Thursday that they have already commenced talks with boxing authorities in Zimbabwe to have the bout take place.
“The winner between the two boxers will have credentials to represent the country in the lightweight category. We have invited one of renowned boxing organisers in Zimbabwe to come to Malawi and watch the fight after which he can make a match,’” said Chimaliza.
Moliati and Chazama, who are all Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxers, will fight on August 30 at Lilongwe Community Centre ground in one of the top billed fights this year.
“By arranging international fights, we are encouraging competition among our boxers. We want boxers to work hard so that they fight on the international stage,” said Chimaliza.
It will not be the first time for New Dawn to organise such a fight because in June they brought in another Zimbabwean who fought against Robert Kachiza. Kachiza lost in the second-round.
“After that loss, we were accused by the fans and media on wrong match making. We were blamed that the Zimbabwean boxer was more superior. This is why we have decided to bring a professional organiser. This is an opportunity for Moliati and Chazama to impress,” said Chimaliza.
Moliati, who is being trained by Alick Mwenda and Osgood Kayuni, said he will win the fight.
“I have been training hard, and I am confident of winning the fight so as to be in line for the international bout,” he said
Chazama is equally optimistic of victory. “The guy lost to Jobson Adams. How do you expect him to beat me?” wondered Chazama. n
