The Monkey Bay-Cape Maclear Road is an important gateway to tourist attraction spots and a potential investment area for tourism. Lake Malawi National Park at Cape Maclear is also World Heritage Site designated by United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).

Ndau said government will consider upgrading the remaining section to bitumen standard.

Mangochi-Monkey Bay MP Ralph Jooma (People’s Party), a former Cabinet minister both in Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and PP administrations,  described the move as a positive step towards boosting the country’s’ economy. n
