MPCC lift National Darts Championship in Mzuzu

Blantyre and Districts Darts League (BDDL) side, Malawi Post Communication Centre (MPCC)scooped the 2015 National Darts Championship during the finals that took place at Mphatso Motel in Mzuzu last Sunday.

MPCC, who scored 22 points from nine games, received K70 000 (about $95) for being the champions while the runners–up, Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) from BDDL as well, got K40 000 (about $55).

BSC scored 20 points from nine games played while Mzuzu Select A, who scooped position three, earned 16 points and received K25 000.

Speaking after the tournament, captain for MPCC Talimba Mwaluwanda said they will continue to work hard so that they should do better in the 2016 season.

“I am happy for the win. It is clear that we had a good team; my players did a good job. Despite, other good teams that participated in the tournament, we overcame the pressure and won the championship,” he said.

Tournament director Charles Katola, thanked City Glass Company and Macsteel for sponsoring the tournament.

“It was a good tournament; teams were determined to lift the championship. We thank the sponsors City Glass and Macsteel for the financial support,” he said.

According to Katola, Malawi Darts Team will soon embark on preparations for Regional -5 international tournament to be held in Zambia, Lusaka in August.

In his remark, Darts Association of Malawi(DAM) vice – president Danken Karim said the tournament apart from exposing new talent, played a vital role in making sure that darts players in Mzuzu are active. n
