Surestream FC’s board chairperson Chris Pitman has said there is no way he can accept technical director Peter Mponda’s resignation, describing him as hub of the team.

Pitman was reacting to Mponda’s announcement that he had quit the team.

“I think Peter said all that stuff out of frustration. It was done in the heat of the moment. I am in talks with Peter at present to resolve this issue amicably and it should work out.

“Peter is Surestream, the institution is where it is now largely because of him and while there might be some misunderstandings, it shouldn’t have reached that point. I should believe there was some communication breakdown,” said Pitman in a response to an e-mail yesterday.

Mponda confirmed having spoken to Pitman and said he will stay put.

“I am not going into details, but I can confirm that I had a fruitful phone conversation with Chris and the issue is being looked into,” said Mponda.

The former Flames captain dismissed suggestions that he resigned for the sake of garnering the attention of the club’s overall boss.

“Not at all. This issue was about principles and professionalism,” he said.

Mponda was reluctant to field more questions from The Nation, saying he could not comment much because the issue is being sorted out.

He announced his resignation two days ago citing internal politics at the club as the cause. He claimed that some officials were forcing him to do some impossible things that could eventually end up tarnishing his image and reputation.

The team, which faces Azam Tigers this weekend, is currently at the bottom of the 15-team Super League log table with a single point from four games after three losses and a draw.
