The Malawi Rural Finance Company (MRFC) employees on Monday went on strike, demanding a 100 percent salary increment.

One of the workers spoke on condition of anonymity in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, on Monday said the workers are not happy that they have spent four years without any salary increment.

“We presented our grievances in May this year to management, but up to now nothing has been done. We will continue with the strike until we get what we want,” said the employee.

The employees said they want government to act since MRFC is a government-run company financed by the Ministry of Finance.

MRFC acting director of operations Nelly Shawa refused to give details on the matter.

MRFC has six branches in the country.
