Big Bullets FC former chairperson Kondi Msungama has said he will not attend the club’s extraordinary general meeting (EGM) slated for tomorrow.

The snub comes after Bullets, through first vice-general  secretary Titha Mandiza have called for an EGM in Lilongwe where, among other issues, Msungama, general secretary  (GS)[Harold Fote] and former treasurer [Brian Ligomeka] are expected to present reports.

Fote has also ruled out the possibility of attending the meeting for his own safety while Ligomeka said he is yet to get official communication on the EGM.

“First, up to now, I have not received any communication from the convener and, I, therefore, wonder in what capacity I will attend the EGM.

“And as I earlier indicated, I am concerned about my safety considering the recent incidents and I would only commit my availability on condition that my safety will be guaranteed. Lastly, we needed to be given time to prepare for such an important meeting. You do not just wake up and call for an EGM without following the necessary procedures,” said Msungama.

On his part, Fote said: “Going by the constitution, the EGM is null and void because it is supposed to be called by me as GS. Some of the people that are organising the EGM, are the ones that are sponsoring thugs who have been assaulting some officials. I was a victim recently when I was chased from Kamuzu Stadium by armed thugs and I am not ready to put my life at risk.”

However, Ligomeka said he is ready and willing to attend the EGM if he gets official communication from the convener.

“I am ready to present what I know, but I have still not received communication from the secretariat. Maybe I need to get in touch with the convener first,” said Ligomeka.

But Mandiza yesterday insisted that they expect all the three to attend the indaba.

“What type of official communication is he [Msungama] looking for because I sent it to him by e-mail.  [And] Fote is worried of his safety? Why? He does not need to because attendance will be strictly by invitation. It is not for every Jim and Jack.

“Only trustees, exco-members and three representatives each from the regional supporters committees from all the regions will attend,” said Mandiza.

Asked if the meeting will go ahead should Msungama and the others fail to appear, Mandiza said: “Yes, it will still go on. There are a lot of issues to be discussed.”

Apart from presentation of reports, Bullets also want an explanation on how the debt estimated to be in the excess of K30 million was incurred, reports on K25 million donation from former president Joyce Banda, TNM Sapota Mapeto promotion, reviewing the constitution, players’ status, filling vacant positions and reviving the team’s brand.
