Mtetemera calm despite being suspended

Creck Sporting Club have suspended head coach McDonald Mtetemera just two matches before the end of the first round of the TNM Super League.

According to the letter of suspension signed by the club’s legal adviser Donvan Silungwe, Mtetemera’s fate will be decided after a review of his performance.

Mtetemera: I am not worried

The letter reads in part: “The club having noted with great concern the poor performance of the team, hereby suspends you from your duties as head coach with immediate effect pending review of your performance.

“The suspension shall be with full pay and shall run up to the end of the first round of this season’s Super League.

“The club shall in due course, arrange the performance review of your office in consultation with you and thereafter take an appropriate action.

“The club will advise the next course of action. Meanwhile, you are not permitted to carry out any functions and duties as head coach of the club until further notice.”

The suspension comes after Creck Sporting Club’s 2-1 loss to Civil Service United at Civo Stadium on Wednesday.

In May, the club gave Mtetemera and his backroom staff an ultimatum to collect at least seven points from three matches.

He went on to beat Mafco 2-1, drew one-all against Bullets and Chitipa United in the three matches.

Creck also qualified for the FDH Bank round of 16 after knocking out Fomo FC of Mulanje before the beating Bangwe All Stars 1-0.

Since the ultimatum was issued, Creck has moved from position 10 to six just below TNM Super League defending champions FCB Nyasa Bullets.

In an interview on Thursday, Mtetemera said he is not panicking as he believes he has delivered in his 13 games as coach for the newly-promoted outfit.

He said: “I am not worried. Let’s wait for the performance preview. The team is on position six and it has also qualified for the FDH Bank round of 16.

“Yet this is our debut season in the top-flight league. I think everyone can tell whether it is true that performance has been good or bad.”

Creck started the maiden season on a high note with two straight wins against Mighty Wakawaka Tigers (3-1) and Moyale Barracks (3-2).

They then lost their next two matches 3-0 to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and 2-1 against Mzuzu City Hammers.

However, the former Chitipa United coach managed a one-all draw against Karonga only to lose 2-0 to Silver Strikers in the next match.

They bounced back to beat Fomo 1-0, but were again held one-all by Baka in the next match.
