MultiChoice Malawi has said it will soon come up with a netball sponsorship having been impressed with the success of the Queens.

The company’s marketing manager for the South, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, made the remarks on Saturday during a dinner which his firm jointly organised with Steers to congratulate the Queens on finishing fifth at the Fast5 Top Six Series in New Zealand last week.

“We have followed the team’s progress in the past five years with keen interest and we are interested to become partners. Paperwork has already been drafted and very soon we will announce a big support programme for netball in Malawi,” said Nyirenda.

Universal Industries, Candlex Limited and Indebank joined the fun by donating hampers to the team.

“At Indebank, we celebrate success and when we saw that the national netball team had done well in New Zealand, it became incumbent upon us to celebrate with them and the nation at large. Their success could not have come at any better time than now as we are also celebrating our 40th anniversary,” said Indebank marketing manager, Maxwell Ng’ambi.

NAM general secretary Helene Mpinganjira thanked the organisations for coming in to be part of the event at short notice.

“This will motivate our girls to continue doing well so that such gatherings should be a trend whenever we participate in international competitions,” said Mpinganjira.

Principal secretary II in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Justin Saidi said companies need to complement government efforts in supporting netball, which he said is the most successful sport in the country.
