Mhango: We have just submitted our fresh applications to the management

Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) has submitted applications to Sunbirds Hotels Management to ask them to use local artists in their hotels as one way of exposing the artists.

If they come to an agreement, not only will it mean exposure of the artists, it will also mean full entertainment at Sunbird Hotels in the country as all musicians in the country will be involved.

In an interview with Mum’s Chairperson, the Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, he said the union started having the discussion with the hotel chain’s management last year but due to management changes, they had to start all over again this year.

“We were making headway in our discussions in which the union wanted to liaise with the hotel so that local artists can be taken to perform during the hotel chain special functions, any other events or serve as resident bands at various Sunbird hotels all around the country but unfortunately, the person we were discussing with left Sunbird and we were forced to restart all over again.

“Right now we have just submitted our fresh applications to the management and we are hopeful that something good will come out of it as the main aim of the initiative is to allow musicians enjoy exposure in places such as hotels as there are a lot of people going there,” said Mhango.

He said in the meantime, the union is busy planning for elections as it plans to elect new officer bearers the in July.

He said people are busy campaigning for various positions such as president, secretary general, treasure general and chapter leaders as the union’s entire executive is up for grabs.
