Mutharika in Ethiopia for Comesa summit

President Peter Mutharika on Saturday left the country for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the 18th Heads of State Summit of Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa).

Mutharika told journalists at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) before departure that “we are going to discuss how we can enhance industrialisation and expand our markets within the Comesa region.”african-union-headquarter-main-gate

He said at the two-day conference, he was expected to deliver his maiden speech in which he will outline initiatives that Malawi had put in place to enhance industrialisation.

The summit, which is to be held under the theme Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialisation, is expected to start today and end tomorrow.

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, who is expected to succeed President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as Comesa chairperson, will chair the summit. n
