The money was deposited into the National Women Football League (NWFL) bank account on Wednesday last week.

Women football chairperson Severia Chalira confirmed in an interview that the money was deposited in their account.

“I had a telephone conversation with the President’s personal aide Mr. Ben Phiri. He told me that he has deposited the money and we verified with the bank. We are very grateful to the President for being there for us,” said Chalira.

She said they have already fixed dates to award winners in the respective districts.

“The ceremony will take place on July 7 in all the regions.  In Mzuzu, it will be at the stadium and Lilongwe at Civo Stadium. In Blantyre, it will take place at Kamuzu Stadium. We are yet to get names of people who will represent the President,” said Chalira.

She said Mutharika has also pledged to continue sponsoring the league, but he is yet to announce the value of the sponsorship.

“More good news is that the sponsorship is continuing,” said Chalira.

She said the 2014 league starts in the second week of July.
