Malawi Queens shooter Joyce Mvula has been nominated for the 2019 Vitality Netball Superleague Player of the Season award following her impressive form with her English club Manchester Thunder.

Sky Sports and the 10-team league have teamed up to put Mvula’s name on the final list of 10 netballers that are eligible to win the coveted accolade.

The others are Chiara Semple (London Pulse), Emma Barrie (Strathclyde Sirens), Fran Williams (Wasps), Georgia Rowe (Severn Stars), Kalifa McCollin (Celtic Dragons), Nat Panagarry (Loughborough Lightning), Razia Quashie (Saracens Mavericks), Sigi Burger (Surrey Storm) and Sophie Drakeford-Lewis (Team Bath).

Mvula, who on Saturday steered her English club to the league’s grand final following a 57-54 win over Team Bath in the semi-final, has since asked netball lovers to vote for her via a Sky Sport link vote-for-the-vitality-netball-superleague-player-of-the-season.

“I have been nominated player of the season. Please vote for me through the link below,” the 24-year-old wrote on her Facebook page on Monday evening.

According to Sky Sports, they turned to the clubs for the nominations and used the Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year votes alongside fan’s reactions to come up with a final list of nominees on Monday.

“With just two matches remaining, the bronze final and the 2019 grand final, it is time to find out which player you think stood out above the rest,” the publication stated.

“After a wealth of exceptional individual performances, choosing just one won’t be an easy decision. Take a look at the nominees below and cast your vote now!”

This is the third season that Mvula has been playing for Thunder. Last year, she won two awards at her club’s 2018 awards ceremony, including Players’ Player of the Year.

She is expected to inspire her club to the league’s ultimate glory this Saturday when they face Wasps in the grand final on Saturday at the Copperbox Arena in London.
