G and G Boxing Promotion has organised an eight-round non-title international bout between lightweights Malawian Felix Mwamaso and Tanzania Lewis Mwakasope at Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu on Sunday.

According to former Northern Region Boxing Committee chairperson Stewart Moyo, who is one of the organisers of the fight, both boxers are professionals.

Moyo said yesterday that Mwakasope has fought 24 bouts, winning 18 while Mwamaso has won nine of 15 fights he has fought.

“This is an international non-title bout, which we want to assess our boxers in the North on how they can perform internationally. We have selected the two professional boxers to provide us a good benchmark on how we will progress with our programme. Mwakasope has fought 24 bouts, winning 18 on knockout, lost three and drawn three. Malawian Mwamaso has fought 15 bouts, winning nine and losing one,” said Moyo.

G and G spokesperson, Gibson Chisale, said the event will not showcase any supporting amateur bouts.

“We will have different arrangement this time around. Instead of incorporating amatuer bouts to support the main bout, we have incorporated other activities such as taekwondo and a live music performance by Mzuzu-based Black Fame Family. We want patrons to experience something new,” said Chisale.

Mwamaso’s trainer, Gabriel Tembo, said preparations are going on well and has promised his fans that they will carry the day on Sunday.

“The boxer is picking up well. What he needs is support from the fans,” said Tembo.
