Mwando set for Tanzanian opponent

Brian Mwando has said he is set for Saturday eight-round non-title bout against Tanzanian Balaka Mwakansope at Robin’s Park in Blantyre.

Mwakansope, who has increased his weight by three kilogrammes to match Mwando’s super-middleweight category, has replaced Mwando’s initial opponent Mischeck Mwenyenye, who has opted to only have a title match against Australian boxer.

“I am through with my preparations, I have had a rigorous work-out for weeks and now I cannot wait to bounce back in the ring,” said Mwando.

It will be his first bout after the lifting of his ban by the Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) this year.

“Fans must come in their numbers to watch a revitalised Mwando, I am bubbling with confidence and raring to go,” he said.

His Tanzanian opponent, who has increased weight by three kilogrammes to match Mwando’s super middleweight category, also declared that Mwando will not last the distance.

Mwando, 25, has a record of nine wins and four losses while his opponent, Mwakansope, 27, is one of the top boxers in Tanzani. n
