Mpinganjira was appointed to the MRA board as chairperson by former president Joyce Banda in May 2012. He replaced Charles Mataya who resigned from MRA.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, comptroller of Statutory Corporations,Zanga Chikhosi, confirmed Mwapasa’s appointment, but referred The Nation to the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Planning for further details.
Said Chikhosi: “That is indeed what has happened at MRA. Miss Mwapasa is now the new chairperson of the MRA board replacing Mr Thom Mpinganjira. If you want further details, contact the Ministry of Finance because MRA is not directly linked to the [Department of] Statutory Corporations.”

Efforts to speak to Ministry of Finance spokesperson Nations Msowoya proved futile as MTL and TNM networks were not working as we went to press and no further details were sourced concerning what other changes have happened in the MRA board as well as executive management.
Both Mwapasa and Mpinganjira are members of the Public Service Reforms Commission which is chaired by Vice-President Saulos Chilima. The commission was appointed by President Peter Mutharika soon after taking office following his victory in the May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections. 
