Mwawi now wants fashion designing

Professional netballer Mwawi Kumwenda is no longer interested in becoming a sports nutritionist as she has now found pleasure in fashion designing.

Before she went to Australia last year to play for the Victorian Netball League (VNL) side Peninsula Waves, the 22-year-old said she wanted to study sports nutrition so as to help local athletes attain the right eating habits for excellent performance in competitions.

But now, there is a change of heart, she is into fashion designing and she wishes to study this once she returns to Australia after the current off-season break.

“I have been exposed to the amazing art of fashion designing while in Australia and my heart has now moved towards that direction,” said Mwawi, who has completed the VNL season as the best shooter.

“I will enrol in a fashion designing school once I return to Australia. I have come to realise that home-made clothes are better and popular. So, as I will be retiring from netball in the coming years, I would like to settle down in this kind of business.”

The towering shooter will return to Australia for the third time in January 2013 for another contract with the Australian club, which she has helped to finish on position four in the just-ended season in the VNL from position seven previously.
