People of Chigude in  Inkosi  Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District have complained about the 21 kilometre distance they cover to access medical care at Nthungwa Health Centre.

Speaking on Friday in an interview, group village head Chimiba Nkhata said it is unfortunate that people cover such a distance and asked government to construct a health centre at Chigude as a solution.

Some rural communities travel long distances to access such services

“The distance is too long and chances of survival for those in need of emergency treatment are slim,” he said.

However, Mzimba North District Health Office (DHO) spokesperson Lovemore Kabaghe said the community health facility for the area is Njuyu Health Centre.

“Chigude area is within the catchment of Njuyu Health Centre but some prefer going to Nthungwa, about 21 km away, because of the difficult terrain to Njuyu,” said Kabaghe.

He said Njuyu is less than 18 km away and that community members should consult their member of Parliament (MP) or identify a donor if they want the facility.
