Mzuzu Police Station has been named the best among seven police establishments in the Northern Region.

The station received a trophy and a certificate of appreciation from commissioner of police Suwedi-Simfukwe at an event a few weeks ago.

On Sunday, police officers at the station held a get-together to celebrate the feat and honour seven outstanding officers.

According to the station’s officer-in-charge Davies Mlepa, the award comes in recognition of their efforts to reduce crime rate, traffic accidents and a backlog of cases that go uninvestigated or without being prosecuted.

In the just-ended year, the station reduced crime rate by nine percent and traffic accidents by 29 percent.

“We are number one because we are following almost all the police procedures,” said Mlepa.

Mzuzu City member of Parliament (MP) Leonard Njikho said the accolade the station received is a win for the city.

“We would love to see our people live in a safe and secure environment. This award gives city residents confidence that we are secure,” he said. n
