Fifa has expressed satisfaction with works at the $500 000 Fifa Goal Project III at Luwinga in Mzuzu.

Fifa development officer Ashford Mamelodi, who visited the project site on Tuesday, said he was happy with the progress of the construction and the quality of work by the contractor, Sitbec Engineering.

“Progress has been good to date and the contractor is working very well. We constantly monitor and get progress reports on what is happening on site and I would like to believe that they have done a good job so far,” said Mamelodi.

The facility, which will house offices and a sports technical centre, including two football pitches once completed, will help improve football in the country in particular the Northern Region.

Mamelodi asked the authorities to open up the centre to the community so that all school children and the youth in the community should access the facilities to help develop football in the country.

He advised FAM to come up with a proposal to enable Fifa to also fund hostels at the centre.

FAM general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda, who accompanied the Fifa official, said the construction works would be finished by July end and that the Fifa would open the project in August.

He said the project would help unearth talent in the Northern Region and improve talent identification to boost Flames.
