After successfully organising the International Women’s Day Fashion Tea two months ago, events organising agency Kwanza PR is back with Africa Day event to celebrate culture at Mzuzu Museum on Saturday.
The agency’s founder, Wezi Mzumara, said in a press release that the objective of the event is to celebrate Malawi’s cultural heritage and that of other nations on the continent.
Said Mzumara: “As Kwanza PR has great pan-African links, we as an agency want to celebrate being Malawian and foremost being African in line with the African Unions #Agenda2063.
“The celebration will be a fun yet educational experience for the residents of Mzuzu and great opportunity for the community to engage with residents from other countries on the continent.”

She said they have partnered with Mzuzu Museum for the educational aspect of the event.
Mzuzu Museum officer-in-charge Smeda Singini said the museum will conduct a heritage quiz and guided tours within the museum’s exhibitions themed ‘Northern Malawi: the People and the Land’.
“The museum collects and cares for objects of scientific, artistic and historical importance and makes them available for public viewing. As a place of education and inspiration we felt it wise to celebrate Africa’s unity and culture by setting up temporal interactive displays, for example African games and African clothing,” she said.
Some of the activities lined up for the day include African games, African photo booth, traditional dances, basic lessons in traditional dances, market stalls, bouncy castle, braai and traditional food stalls.
“Expect to find a variety of things from the continent from Jollof rice {Nigeria/Ghana] to Massai jewellery [Kenya/Tanzania] and games [Malawi/Ethiopia/Cameroon],” promised Mzumara.
The event will be organised in conjunction with Zik Garvey Investments.
Africa Day, which falls on May 25, is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), presently known as African Union (AU).
The African Union, which comprises 53 member states, has brought together the continent of Africa to collectively address the challenges it has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.
