So far, four design labels—Mzuzu Fashion and Designers Collective, House of Towera, MisK and Sozo Wear—have already confirmed. Two, yet to confirm, will travel from Lilongwe and Blantyre as guest designers.

“We are excited by the fantastic response that we have had from Mzuzu-based designers. We will be confirming another three designers from Karonga, Mzimba and Nkhata Bay within the next week.

“We will officially be launching Mzuzu Fashion Week on September 1 and calling all members of the community to get involved,” said Mzumara who has co-founded the event with Zik Garvey Investments (ZGI).

Mzuzu Fashion Week has been established after a series of fashion events that have taken place in the city this year. The recent one being Mzuzu Flame Sunday Fashion Show organised as part of Independence Day Anniversary Celebrations.

Mzuzu Fashion Week wants to build brand awareness, realise potential of the designers and models and create investment opportunities in the creative sector, according to Mzumara.

Model auditions for the event are expected to take place at Kwanza PR/ZGI offices in Bazaar Building on Saturday where 20 models are expected to be recruited.

“We are proud to announce that we will be partnering with Grand Palace Hotel as the venue for Mzuzu Fashion Week. We look forward to more local businesses joining us to create a successful event. We are doing a call for sponsors, partners and service providers, if interested, to get in touch with us,” said Zikani Nyirenda, ZGI’s founder. n
